Ford Probe

A sports coupe loved most for its wonderful performance that is the Ford Probe.
Fast driving, quick acceleration, superior handling and excellent cornering capabilities
these are but few of the characteristics of the Ford Probe. It did not last long
in the market, however, as its performance was overshadowed by its simple and
almost boring style.
Ford first introduced the Probe in 1989 with three trim levels: the GL, LX and
GT. It is equipped with a 2.2 liter inline type 4-cylinder engine, with a turbocharged
version standard for the GT. A year later, a 3.0 V6 engine was introduced and
used for the middle trim LX. It is equipped with a standard 5-speed manual transmission
while a 4-speed automatic is available as an option. It shares the same chassis
and powertrain with Mazda's MX-6.
The Ford Probe had a major redesign in 1993 that reduces it to two trim levels.
The base trim is now equipped with a 2.0 liter I4 engine while the GT trim was
equipped with a 2.5 liter V6. The coupe increased in length, 4 inches in wheelbase
and 2 inches over-all. Safety features were also started to be introduced to compensate
for its lack in the previous models. Aside from these changes, there was no other
made.
The redesign in 1993 was the last major redesign for the Ford Probe as it was
dropped in 1997 along with three other slow-selling Ford models. Although it performs
great, its wonderful performance was overshadowed by its simple and boring appearance.
The sales for the Probe were slow as car buyers would rather choose an elegant
sedan or SUV than a sports coupe.
These years, old Ford Probes have found home on the race tracks where their quality
performance is needed most. You can still find different Ford Probe parts and
accessories although rare as many racers would still want to keep and modify their
old Probes. Among other characteristics, these old coupes are well loved for their
handling and cornering capabilities traits that make them unbeatable on the race
track.
