1993 Ford Probe
A new Probe emerged as Ford introduces a redesigned and improved Ford Probe for
the 1993 model year. The new Probe was larger and longer both in wheelbase and
over-all length. Inside, there were only a few changes made, although it became
safer.
For 1993, the Ford Probe is available in only two trim levels: the base and the
GT trim. The turbocharged version of the 2.2 liter 4-cylinder engine was dropped
in favor of an improved basic version that now produces 115 hp of power and 122
lb-ft of torque. This engine is fitted for the base model while the GT gets the
new 2.5 liter V6 engine that produces 164 horses and 160 lb-ft torque. These new
engines rates 26/33 mpg (base) and 21/26 mpg in fuel economy using the standard
5-speed manual gear box. The optional 4-speed automatic transmission would rate
a bit poorer in fuel economy.

The 1993 Ford Probe looks bigger than its predecessor because it gets an increase
of about 4 inches in wheelbase and 2 inches in over-all length. Interior dimensions
and features found not much change, however. The previous year's standard features
are still standard, while the optional features are still optional.
If there is any noticeable change in the Ford Probe's interior, that would be
the airbag. For 1993, safety was improved by equipping it with a standard driver
airbag. Other safety features continued to be optional, including the ABS brakes,
power door locks and power windows.
